In addition to the fire that claimed the life of a Sciotoville man, two other fires were reported in Scioto County Thursday. A fire occurred at 3503 Swauger Valley Rd. in Minford. When Members of the Minford Fire Department arrived, the house was fully involved, the roof had fallen in, and only a portion of the side walls was standing. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating that blaze.

A Fire also occurred at 768-A Fairgrounds Rd. in Lucasville. The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a possible arson. Deputies said they talked with Valley Fire Chief Terry Horton, who informed them the fire started in the bedroom of the owner’s son.

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) are working together to remind everyone that home fires are more prevalent in winter than in any other season. This is due in part to an increase in cooking and heating fires. Holiday decorations and winter storms that can interrupt electrical service and cause people to turn to alternative heating sources also contribute to the increased risk of fire in winter.
