A New Boston woman was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center Wednesday morning where she was treated for smoke inhalation after she was awakened by a fire in her bedroom.
According to the New Boston Fire Department, they received a call of a house fire at 702 Lakeview Ave., in New Boston, at about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, an off-duty village fireman Donnie Raike, who lives nearby, was already on the scene, along with Green Township volunteer fireman Kevin Akers who saw the fire on his way to work at New Boston School.
Akers said that when he arrived the homeowners were attempting to put out the fire in the upstairs back-bedroom with a garden hose. He said the New Boston Fire Department responded quickly and everyone was evacuated from the home.
One woman inside the home, Jamie Miller, was asleep when the fire started in her bedroom. She was transported by ambulance to Southern Ohio Medical Center for smoke inhalation. Two other adults made it out safely, and one adult who lives there was not home at the time of the fire. New Boston firemen also rescued a cat from underneath the bed in the burning room.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and the incident remains under investigation.
