When Christians from different denominations come together for a common purpose, great things can happen.

A group of Christians who call themselves ‘Portsmouth Church’ have been meeting for the last six months in downtown Portsmouth for bible discussions and fellowship.

Joshua Lawson, the founder of the group, said the group’s mission is to strengthen ties amongst Christians and to help others.

“We are working to build connections between area congregations to foster unity among the Body of Christ in Portsmouth. On the other hand, we are coming together to minister to one another’s needs, serve the poor, and to cast vision of what Paul called the eternal purpose of God—seeing what that is and how we can flesh it out. This work is still in the beginning stages,” Lawson said.

According to Lawson, the group implemented their first charitable community outreach.

“Aside from the Monday meeting we are exploring various means of outreach. Recently we partnered with the brothers and sisters at Pleasant Green Baptist to help meet the needs of a few families for Christmas,”

He said after the holidays the group will be organizing a city-wide love feast to be shared by all the churches in our area.

The group meets Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Trinity Business Group, located at 613 Chillicothe Street in Portsmouth.

There is also a Facebook group entitled “Portsmouth Church Life” where you can receive notification on meetings and events taking place.
