WHEELERSBURG — Driven by a passion to help those who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction, Sciotodale Freewill Baptist Church will host the 2014 River Run 2014 at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Kenyon Road in Wheelersburg. According to the pastor of SFBC, all proceeds from the race will be allocated for the Freedom Hall Recovery Center in Piketon.


Reed said he and his congregation are passionate about helping out those dealing with drug addiction. The River Run is a seven mile race, and includes a one mile Fun Run for kids.


“We held our first River Run in 2011. We had it from 2008 to 2011, and then we took a couple of years off. In 2010 and 2011, we supported Freedom Hall Recovery Center, and chose them as an outreach to support financially through the race because we see so many people affected by drug and alcohol addiction in our community here in Scioto County and surrounding area,” said. “It became a passion ours to help where we could.”


The course for the River Run will is flat, asphalt, and will have a limited amount of shade.


Participants should be aware of a possible train-crossing during the course of the race, something that could affect runners’ times. River Run will convene rain or shine and non-refundable. registrations opens at 6:15 on race day


Entry fees will consist of the following: 7 miles - $20 pre-registered by July 31 - $30 Aug. 1 - race day. (Pre-registration by July 31 to guarantee t-shirt) Kids fun run (up to age 12) - $5 fee on race day (no pre-registration necessary)drawings will be head and early bird registration prizes will be given away for all those registered by July 31. Registrations must be received by July 31.


The breakdown of age groups for participation is 0-12, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-4, 45-49, 50-54, 55-60, 61-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 80 and beyond. Awards will include $50 cash award and medal for overall male/female, and a medal for each winner in age class male/female. $25 cash prize for walker first-place.
