NEW BOSTON — New Boston Village Council met in special session Monday morning to consider two pieces of legislation.

The first was to enter into a new contract with the Ohio Department of Public Safety for the leasing of a portion of the New Boston Community Center for use by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles for drivers tests.

After declaring the action an emergency, council reached agreement on a contract that would place rental from July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2017, at $14,400 a year making the lease payment $1,200 per month. Beginning on July 1, 2017, and running through June 30, 2019, the lease will increase to $16,800 a year with the lease payment being $1,400 per month.

Council also declared an emergency on a resolution authorizing participation and ratifying prior participation of the village with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the design and construction of phase 3 of the village’s combined sewer system improvements.

New Boston Village Administrator Steve Hamilton said phase 3 is to be bid out in three alternate bids.

Phase 3-A will be installing the 72-inch pipe from Rhodes Avenue to Gallia Street. Phase 3-B will take the pipe up to the front of the old Glenwood High School and will catch all the stormwater from Glenwood and will take an increased amount of stormwater out of the combined sewer. Phase 3-C will consist of televising and cleaning of sewer lines.
