NEW BOSTON — Local shoppers in search of craft items no longer have to go out of town. The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Pat Catan’s Crafts, now located at 4050 Rhodes Ave. in New Boston, was held Friday, June 3.
Anxious shoppers waited in vehicles on the parking lot of the store. Following the ribbon cutting, customers streamed in and were greeted with smiling faces of Pat Catan’s employees. A host of games to participate in throughout the store, offered good deals and discounts to customers.
Junior Williams, mayor of New Boston, said they graciously welcome Pat Catan’s and are excited about having them in the local area.
“We are all excited and the people are excited,” Williams said. “There is a lot of interest in the products that Pat Catan’s provide. The people are ready. They are out here today shopping and we thank Pat Catan’s for their investment in the community and bringing these jobs to our area. We wish them much success.”
Dorothy Taylor of Portsmouth was among the customers who visited Pat Catan’s grand opening. Taylor said having a local Pat Catan’s Crafts store saves her from out of town travel.
“I am very excited that we have a craft store here in New Boston. Now I don’t have to go out of town to search for items that I need,” Taylor said. “So, I am very excited. Today I am looking for some materials for our Vacation Bible School, some craft materials, so that our VBS will be a success.”
Rick Morgan, president of Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, said he is pleased with the new store.
“I am both surprised and pleased,” Morgan said. “I wondered how much of the space they would utilize, and I can’t believe they are using it all. This is an awesome place. Very nice.”
Pat Catan’s is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
