OSHP reports Scioto County fatality

A Scioto County, Ohio, man has died of injuries suffered in April. Orville E. Silvery, 80, of Portsmouth, Ohio, died from injuries he received in a crash around 3:10 p.m. April 1, 2016 on Ohio 852 at the intersection of the U.S. 52 east on ramp in Washington Township.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers said Silvey was driving a 1986 Buick Century northbound on Ohio 852. Troopers said Silvey failed to yield at a red light and struck an oncoming vehicle. Zachery Haynes, 17, of Stout, Ohio, was driving a 2001 Ford Escort, southbound on Ohio 852 attempting to turn left onto the U.S. 52 eastbound on ramp.

Silvey was taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center and later transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office reported that Silvey succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the hospital on April 20, 2016 at 10:07 a.m. The OSHP did not report the fatality until May 18.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Washington Township Fire Department, Portsmouth Ambulance, and the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
