FLATWOODS, Ky. — As of Wednesday, July 8, folks in Flatwoods, Ky., now cool off in the refreshing waters of the Flatwoods City Pool.

The opening had been delayed due to renovations approved by the Flatwoods City Council back in February. Mayor Ron Fields said the pool is now open for business, and swimming is no longer deterred by the renovations.

Approval for the construction of the new bathhouse for the Flatwoods City Pool during a Flatwood City Council special meeting held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015.

“The renovation is completed enough to where we could open the pool, but there are some things that still need done,” Fields said. “We had to put up petitions in the restrooms, they are temporary, because the ones that we had are broken, and we had to send them back. We are also in the process of putting the kitchen equipment in, so that we can serve hot dogs and such.”

Fields said pool operations are going well, as the renovations ensue.

“Everything is going well, the people are coming in and swimming. We hope to extend the swimming season until after Labor Day, with it opening so late,” he said.

He said the Flatwoods pool is also open for private party reservations during the hours of 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations may be made by calling Sweetie Lowery at 606-836-4242.
