Storms on the way

You might want to grab a couple of items and place them in your car over the next day or so. One would be an umbrella and the other a raincoat. While sunshine has been plentiful across the area over this past weekend, it may be in short supply towards the middle of the remainder of the workweek. A frontal boundary will serve as a focus for active weather, with several chances for showers and thunderstorms Tuesday through Thursday across the Ohio Valley.The beautiful balmy temperatures are going to be replaced by a storm front that will move into the area beginning Tuesday afternoon.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon and move east-southeast through the region going into the evening hours. A few of these storms may become severe with the potential for damaging winds and large hail.

The most likely timing for strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to be between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m., then a slight chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9 a.m. It is expected to be cloudy, with a high near 74. Northeast wind 3 to 6 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night’s forecast calls for a chance of showers. It will be cloudy, with a low around 60. East wind 3 to 5 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

There’s a chance of showers on Thursday, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Southeast wind around 6 miles per hour becoming southwest in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night there’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday’s forecast calls for it to be partly sunny with a high near 72. Mostly cloudy Friday night with a low around 51. Mostly cloudy Saturday with a high near 75. A chance of showers Saturday night and cloudy with a low around 54 and a 40 percent chance of precipitation.

Showers likely on Sunday and possibly a thunderstorm. The high will be near 71 with a 70 percent chance of precipitation.
