Lodge honors a 60-year Mason

Al Schmid was recognized on February 25 for 60 years of masonic service at Portland Lodge No. 366 F. & A. M. Oak Hill. A 60-year lapel pin was presented to Schmid, along with a framed certificate from the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio. The certificate stated he was a Master Mason and member in good standing of the Masonic fraternity for 60 years and it is honored to acknowledge this significant occasion and in doing so offers its gratitude for a lifetime of commitment to Masons, signed Robert C. Rill Jr., Grand Master and C. Michael Watson, Grand Secretary. According to the Grand Lodge of Ohio, becoming a 60-year mason is a feat only a few have accomplished. Schmid, who retired from Aristech Corporation in Haverhill after 30 years of service, was a foreman in the Boilermaker Union #105. He is a 32 year Mason in the Valley of Cincinnati and a member of the El Hasa Shrine of Ashland, Ky. Schmid is an active member of the Wheelersburg United Methodist Church and is a Kentucky Colonel. He resides in Wheelersburg with his wife, Carol. Portland Lodge No. 366 F. & A. M. of Ohio was chartered 150 years ago in 1866 in Portland, Ohio (now Oak Hill) and currently has 162 members.
