Segway mural tours coming soon

Gene and Justin Ridout are making preparations to open a Segway rental business in Portsmouth this summer.

The Segways can be rented to tour the Ohio River or Portsmouth Murals.

Gene and Justin purchased eight Segways in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and have had them along with office equipment moved to Portsmouth.

“There is not a more beautiful ride than on a Segway touring the Ohio River and all the murals,” Gene Ridout said.

Once open the i2 Segways will be made available for rent. The machines are powered by a key fob and are designed so anyone can ride them from kids to seniors.

Gene Ridout said, the Segways have a 300 pound weight limit and parents bust sign a release for kids that want to ride. Kids will also have to wear a provided helmet.

The Segways can also be rented for birthday parties.

Plans are to have a building on Second Street to rent the Segways from.

“Segway tours in New York cost about $89. In Columbus it’s about $50 and in Pigeon Forge it costs $39,” Gene Ridout said. “We are going to start our tours at $29 for about 1.5 hours.”

Plans are being made to hold a grand opening ceremony around May 2 at the end of the Second Street Bridge.

Only eight Segways will be available when the business opens and reservations will be encouraged.

Details about the business and reserving a Segway will be available closer to the business opening.
