Petitions certified, primary set

On Wednesday, the Scioto County Board of Elections met in regular session and certified the petitions of candidates of those seeking office.

The primary election in Scioto County will be held March 15. Voters throughout the county will chose who they want to represent them against their opponent in the November General Election.

Over the course of certifying petitions, the board found issue with the petitions of Rich Dustman for not having enough valid signatures. The board votes to invalidate Dustman’s petitions and removed him as a candidate for commissioner.

Two Scioto County Commissioners seats are up for reelection and those seeking the office include Republican Doug Coleman and Democrats David Malone and Ryan Ottney.

Those seeking the second seat include, Republican Mike Crabtree, Democrat Thomas Jefferson Davis and Democrat Kevin W. Johnson.

For Judge of the Fourth District Court of Appeals, Valarie K. Gerlach and Paul Price are registered Democrats and will face in the primary. The top vote getter will face Republican Matthew McFarland.

For Scioto County Sheriff, Democrat Steve Goins will face off against Republican Marty Donini in the general election.

Democrat Craig Opperman will face off against Republican Darren LeBrun in the general election for Scioto County Engineer.

For 90th District State Representative, Democrat Tara Cordle will face off against Republican Terry Johnson in the general election.

Gail Alley is running unopposed for Scioto County Recorder and William K. Ogg is running unopposed for Scioto County Treasurer.

Mark E. Kuhn is running unopposed for Scioto County Prosecuting Attorney and Lisa Novinger is running unopposed for Scioto County Clerk of Courts.

There are a large number Republican Central Committee members on the ballot with everyone running unopposed.

The city of Portsmouth will have three charter changes on the ballot.

Voters of Scioto County are being asked to renew a Senior Citizens tax levy.

Green Township is asking voters to approve an electric aggregation program. Green Township is also asking voters to approve a replacement levy for police protection within the township.

In Washington Township, voters are being asked to approve a paving and maintaining roads replacement levy.

There will be three local liquor options on the ballot.

In precinct Porter A, voters are being asked to approve Burg Brew Thru to sell beer, wine and mixed beverages as well as Sunday sales of beer, wine and mixed beverages from 11 a.m. – midnight.

Kroger of Wheelersburg is asking the residents of precinct Porter C to approve the sale of beer, wine and mixed beverages.

The voters of precinct Washington A are being asked to approve Bolands Mini Mart to sell beer.
