I-64 at Carter Co. remains closed after truck overturns

0

Westbound I-64 remains closed at the 178 mile marker in Carter County – about 12 miles west of the Kentucky-West Virginia state line.

That’s where a semi tractor-trailer rig owned by Atlas Trucking Company hauling rolled steel, overturned early Thursday morning.

Law enforcement continues to reconstruct the crash and wrecker crews are on scene. It’s estimated both lanes of westbound I-64 will remain closed for another 2 to 3 hours.

The Cannonsburg Fire Department has been directing traffic at the scene and a detour has been established at Exit 181 using U.S. 60 west through Grayson to return to I-64 at the 172 mile marker, but motorists should expect heavy traffic and delays along that route.

Local travelers headed west toward Grayson or Lexington from Ashland or from the Industrial Parkway today should seek alternate routes.
