GREENUP COUNTY, KY. — A truck carrying steel overturned Thursday afternoon, leading to a road closure.

On Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at approximately 3 p.m., an overturned tractor trailer carrying a bundle of steel, led to the road closure of KY 5 at Bellefonte at Lycan Road about a half mile south of US 23 near the Boyd-Greenup line on Thursday through 5 a.m., Friday morning.

Staff at Greenup E-911 told The Daily Times that Thursday’s crash was a single vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer driver, whose name was not yet released.

According to Greenup E-911, the driver was hauling a large roll of steel on his truck, which accounted for the extended road closure after the crash. The driver was checked out by medical personnel present at the scene and refused treatment.

Bellefonte Police Department, Russell Police Department, Russell Fire Department, and McGuire’s Towing all responded to the scene of the accident.

Authorities said the name of the driver would be released Friday afternoon.
