Kristen Bailey, daughter of Roger and Misty Bailey, is a precocious, almost nine-year-old. Most kids going on nine and staring their Dec. 13 birthday in the eye are making plans for a big birthday party with friends, lots of cake, and plenty of presents, but that is not exactly Kristen’s plan. Instead, she is going to volunteer at Sierra’s Haven on Dec. 12.

“We’re going to go out and we’re going to be there from 2-4 (p.m.),” Misty Bailey said.

One of the purposes for volunteering at Sierra’s Haven is to present them with a donation.

“She’s going to be at Minford ShopWise on Dec. 1 from 3-4 (p.m.),” Misty Bailey said. “We are going to be having a bake sale and collecting donations for Sierra’s Haven.”

Misty Bailey said her daughter, who is home-schooled, has wanted to have the event and raise money for Sierra’s Haven for awhile.

“I’m not a big animal person,” Misty Bailey said. “So I have kind of been putting her off, but she has just begged. We had plans to taking some of her friends to the zoo and seeing lights and stuff like that, but she really, really, really wanted to do Sierra’s Haven, so that’s what we’re doing instead.”

Kristen, on the other hand, is truly an animal lover.

“I have one dog, one cat, and I’m about to get a bunny,” Kristen said. “I’m going to take it to the fair.”

Like a lot of people who get the experience of visiting Sierra’s Haven, Kristen said she would like to take every cat and dog home with her.

“I love animals and I want to help them,” Kristen said. “On Dec. 1 I want people to stop by Minford ShopWise and give donations and buy lots of baked goods.”
