You may need to give yourself a little more time if you travel U.S. 23 in the weeks ahead. Additional lane restrictions will be in place later this month on U.S. 23 in Scioto County as part of the Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway construction project.

On Monday, Nov. 16, crews from the Portsmouth Joint Venture (PJV) will close the driving lane of northbound U.S. 23 just north of Lucasville to place barrier wall along the roadway’s shoulder where interchange construction is under way. Then, on Monday, Nov. 23, the PJV crews will close the passing lanes of both north and southbound U.S. 23 temporarily to place barrier wall along the median.

The single-day, temporary restrictions are scheduled to be in effect from approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days, with traffic restored to two lanes in either direction by early evening hours.

The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Portsmouth Gateway Group are constructing the new Ohio 823, a 16-mile, four-lane, limited access highway from U.S. 23 at Lucasville to U.S. 52 at Sciotoville in Scioto County. The Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway is the department’s first P3 project and the largest, modern earthwork project to be constructed in the state’s history.
