When it comes to the Christmas season, the Portsmouth area can look forward to a number of things happening, including the Portsmouth Area Jaycees Annual Christmas parade.
The upcoming parade marks the 77th year the members of the Portsmouth Area Jaycees have held the parade in downtown Portsmouth.
This year’s parade will take place Nov. 19.
“The parade has been a long tradition of bringing in the holiday season for the Portsmouth area,” Leroy Hackworth, parade organizer, said.
The parade will line up at Portsmouth High School at 5 p.m., with the parade starting at 6 p.m.
From Portsmouth High School, the parade will travel west on Gallia Street, cross Chillicothe St. onto 5th St., and end on Market Street.
Hackworth said that, after the parade, Mr. and Mrs. Clause will visit with kids at Toytown on Market Street in Portsmouth.
Hackworth claimed there are a lot of people who look forward to the parade, because it marks the unofficial start to the Christmas season for the Portsmouth area.
“After 77 years, people really look forward to it,” Hackworth said.
Those interested in participating in the parade can call 740-353-6709 for more information. Additional details can also be had by visiting the Jaycees Annual Christmas Parade Facebook page.
In order to participate in the parade, the Jaycees ask for toy donations to go towards its Christmas Basket Program, or a $25 donation.
