Progress is continuing on the largest modern earthwork project to be constructed in the history of Ohio, the Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway construction project, known as the Portsmouth Bypass. That means as work is being done, there will be road closures along the way and this next week is no exception

Township Road 237 in Scioto County will be closed next week as part of the Ohio 823 project.

On Monday, Oct. 26, Township Road 237, Blake Hollow Road, will be closed between Ohio 335 and County Road 31 which is Swauger Valley Road for clearing, excavation, culvert installation and embankment work. The closure will be in effect through the duration of the project, which is scheduled to be completed in December 2018.

In addition to that closure, Pershing Avenue and Shumway Hollow Road have also been closed for reconstruction, and blasting operations are under way throughout the entire corridor.

In a public-private partnership, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Portsmouth Gateway Group are constructing the new Ohio 823, a 16-mile, four-lane, limited access highway from U.S. 23 at Lucasville to U.S. 52 at Sciotoville in Scioto County. The Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway is the department’s first P3 project.
