Thirty-eight-thousand meals later, Dr. Tracy Murray DDS, continues to financially support the Steven A. Hunter Hope Fund to feed and provide other needs to children all over the area.

“This means everything to have a business in the community step up year after year,” Mark Hunter said. “You try not to take anything for granted but when they’re there for you every year and you know it’s going to provide so many meals for hungry kids. What can you say? It’s a wonderful blessing.”

The Steven A. Hunter Hope Fund was established in 2006 in memory of Steven A. Hunter who passed away while attending Milligan College. It is not by chance that Dr. Murray chooses to support the Hunter fund.

“Steven has always been our patient,” Rhonda Murray said. “When he would come in, he basically just lighted the office. Everyone could not wait to see him. He would come in and have everyone laughing and smiling.”

Murray said the practice has donated to the fund for the past eight years. The total donated over the years is $28,828 when you factor in this year’s donation of $3,500. Mark Hunter said the fund is up to 828 children from 14 different schools in 15 locations they provide for every weekend.

“We do bleaching and all of our proceeds go 100 percent to the Steven A. Hunter Hope Fund,” Rhonda Murray said. “When our patients come in and they have the bleaching done, the money that they pay for the bleaching goes directly to the fund.”

Because of Dr. Murray’s donations, Mark Hunter said 10,000 power packs have been provided, which means 38,000 meals provided to needy children in the area.

“They have let his memory stay alive and this is a very good way to give back to his family for their loss and that’s why Tracy is involved in this,” Rhonda Murray said.

Dr. Murray is also known in the community for his annual Free Day of Dentistry and for his involvement with the Single’s Fair presented by Christ’s Community Church.

“I have always noticed how hard working he (Dr. Murray) and his staff are,” Virgie Hunter said. “Just to know he uses his talent to help others and he does it over and over again.”

Rhonda Murray said there is a thread that runs through all of Dr. Murray’s giving.

“Obviously you can’t do enough for your community,” Rhonda Murray said. “We try to reach out to everyone in the community. There’s a lot of people that are laid off, retired, they’re just having it rough and we do things like this and we do a Free Day of Dentistry because we’re giving back to the community and hopefully it will help people in the end and help them have a great smile. A lot of people out there can’t afford to have a great smile and we take it for granted. So he (Dr. Murray) tries to give back in that way.”

Mark Hunter said anyone wishing to make a donation to the Steven A. Hunter Hope Fund can send donations to P.O. Box 802, Portsmouth, Ohio, 45662; through Pay Pal on their website as well as on their Facebook site. Donations can also be dropped off at Hunter’s office.

“No amount is too small,” Mark Hunter said. “Three dollars provides one power pack so it’s all a blessing.”
