For the second time in the last couple of years, a car crash has caused a power outage in the Sciotoville area. Scioto Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is reporting a vehicle accident Friday as the cause of an electric outage in and around the Sciotoville area.
“When I logged into AEP (Ohio website) they said there was a vehicle crash that caused the outage,” Scioto County EMA director Kim Carver told the Daily Times. “Everybody from Sciotoville is saying it was right there shy of the (Sister’s) Dairy Bar. They said there was a wreck there and the (power) pole was impacted. That’s the second time that has happened. Last year or the year before there was an accident on Harding (Avenue) that involved a utility pole and there was an outage there for a little while.”
Early reports were that nearly 1,500 customers were effected, some of which have since been brought back on line. Crews were working Saturday afternoon at the Sub Station to restore service to all customers.
The Times was unable to reach Portsmouth Police sources for information regarding the person or persons involved in the crash.
By 12:30 p.m. Saturday the AEP Ohio website was not showing any Scioto County outages. However, the site did show 1,636 people without power in Pike County. No explanation was available on that outage.
