WORTHINGTON — The National Society United States Daughters of 1812 held its 118th Ohio State Council recently at the Crowne Plaza North. Scioto County attendees representing the Scioto Valley Volunteers (SVV) chapter were President Beth Normand, Vice President Mary Stewart and Registrar Gail Cropper Swick.
Among state officers reporting were Normand as corresponding secretary, and, by submitted report, Mary Crist as recording secretary.
Normand also presented the SVV chapter president’s report. Reports by SVV members holding state committee shairmanships were made, via submission, by Belinda Bowman-Schaefer (Membership Committee), Mary Crist (Patriotic Education Committee) and Carolyn Hilliard (Correct Use of the Flag Committee).
Following the business meeting, a memorial service was conducted by 1812 state chaplain Betsie Goad. SVV chapter charter member Nita McElhaney Cropper was among the 2017 deceased members who were honored in memory of their membership and service.
