Authorities are not identifying a man they say was shot by his mother as the result of an altercation Sunday afternoon. However, they identified the woman as Cindy L. Conley, 51, of West Portsmouth.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V Donini announced Conley was arrested after officers investigated a shooting that took place Sunday afternoon in a residence on Moores Lane.

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approx. 3:15 p.m. from a residence in Sugar Grove stating that a man pulled up on an ATV and said he had been shot by his mother and requested that an ambulance be called. A squad arrived along with deputies and it was discovered that the shooting had taken place on Moores Lane at a residence there. Detectives went to the address on Moores Lane and spoke to the mother of the victim. The victim, a male in his 30s, did not live at that address but was there visiting at the time of the shooting. Donini said it is believed drugs were the basis of the argument between them.

After an investigation and information was gathered it was discovered that the victim had been in a verbal argument with his mother and she had shot him as a result of the altercation. The victim was flown by helicopter to a Huntington, West Virginia, hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound.

Conley was charged with felonious assault, a felony of the second degree. She was held in the Scioto County Jail on a $25,000 bond pending her appearance in the Portsmouth Municipal Court Tuesday morning for arraignment.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said anyone with information about the case should contact detective Denver Triggs at 740-355-8245. He said all calls are kept confidential.
