The “Bach” to School Run/Walk 5K was held Saturday, Aug. 19 at Northwest High School. This family-friendly event was a fundraiser honoring Mr. Roby Bach, a former administrator at Northwest Local Schools and an avid volunteer at New Boston Schools who passed away suddenly on Dec. 25, 2015. Both New Boston and Northwest communities came together to celebrate the life and legacy of Mr. Roby Bach who loved helping students and educators within the community.

The event benefited the Roby Bach Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund was created to benefit one Northwest senior and one New Boston senior. Awards were presented to the overall male and female winners, along with age category winners .The top female winner was Brianna Brown with a time of 24:23. The top male finisher was Adam Schraeder with a time of 20:07.

Competitor Trenton Stenger , who took second place in the 20-25 age group, called the event a fun evening supporting a worthwhile cause.

“It was a nice event. The course we ran was a twist on the cross country course I used to run when I was a student here,” said Stenger “I think the 5K was a great way to continue to help the students by raising money for the scholarship.”

This year’s sponsors included Marc and Jennifer Cottle, Greg Lute Trucking, Shawnee Animal Clinic, The Depot/Giovanni’s of Otway, Hot Springs Spa and Pool Supplies, Botkin/Hornback Funeral Home, Donna Wolery, Gateway Realty, Charles Euton Realty. The Roby Bach Memorial Scholarship Fund would like to thank their sponsors, along with the Public Library for setting up a table and passing out school supplies.

Anyone that did not receive a t-shirt on race day may pick up their shirt in the front office of Northwest Elementary between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
