The Scioto River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is gearing up for the 2nd Annual Glow Run. Glow Run proceeds go to benefit the 2017 Dancing with Our Stars event.

“Dancing With our Stars 2017 is over six months away; however, competition amongst the dancers is already heating up! Dancing with our Stars features community members, known as ‘star dancers,’ who compete both on and off the dance floor by raising money for the local Red Cross,” Executive Director Debbie Smith explained. “Every dollar raised by an individual dancer equals one vote and the person with the most votes is awarded the coveted DWOS Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy following the show scheduled for March 24, 2018 at the Friends Community Center.”

This year’s Glow Run will help support all of the dancers. The 5k Glow Walk and Run is scheduled for this Saturday, Aug. 26 with last minute registration beginning at 7 p.m. at Shawnee State University (SSU) in Portsmouth. Registration is $25 a person, or $10 for the Kid’s Fun Run at the Red Cross office in Portsmouth, online at www.tristateracer.com or at the race on Saturday.

“We are very appreciative of our dancers, and all their hard work that they are putting into their events,” Smith commented. “The Glow Run will be an event you don’t want to miss. Awards will also be given out for the best Glow Costume, top two male and female finishers, top three male and female finishers in age divisions. Walkers and strollers are also welcome. This will also be the first opportunity to meet our new dancing cast. So join your friends and family for good time to support a great cause!”

All proceeds raised from Dancing With Our Stars help to provide disaster relief in Scioto, Pike, Jackson, Lawrence, Adams and Brown Counties. Last year the Ohio River Valley American Red Cross responded to 231 local disasters and helped 747 individuals with emergency food, shelter, and other supplies, and also installed 1771 free smoke alarms.

Information on additional Star fund raising events and projects will be forthcoming.
