The new Rapid Fired Pizza, located on 11th Street in Portsmouth is open and ready to feed pizza loving patrons.

Rapid Fired Pizza opened Thursday, August 10 after having a ribbon cutting celebration on Wednesday night. Under the guidance of Franchisees Ed and Kyle Newsome and General Manager Dennis Richards, Rapid Fired has a staff of 25 trained in offering an assembly line style pizza experience that lets guest order pizza, salad, bread or cheese sticks or any other menu item just how they want it when they want it.

“Rapid Fired is a new concept,” Ed Newsome stated. “With our technology, we can cook a pizza in 180 seconds.”

Founder Jim Savakinas explained that many of the Rapid Fired founders were Subway franchisees, and some were also Hot Heads franchisees.

“We thought, ‘If we can do it with subs and if we can do it with burritos, why can’t we do it with pizza,” Savakinas stated. “We’re nothing like the traditional pizza place.”

Thus, similar to Subway or Hot Heads, customers can come in and choose their crust, sauce, cheeses, meats and vegetables and have the ability to ask for a little more or a little less. Plus, the cost is always $7.50 for any pizza.

To complete the experience, patrons can also stop by the sauce zone for 19 different dipping sauces from pesto to taco, several of which carry a bit of spice.

In addition to build-your-own pizzas, Rapid Fired offers craft pizzas — such as Savakinas favorite buffalo chicken pizza, custom and pre-made salads, sides and a variety of dessert pizzas. They will also be offering craft beers and wines.

Rapid Fired also has online ordering and a pickup window for those in a hurry.

Savakinas explained that the Portsmouth store is the 19th Rapid Fired to open, which several more planned to open in the near future. However, Ed Newsome explained that there is still no similar concept closer than Dayton, Columbus or Cincinnati. He added that this store has been in progress for a year.

“We’re excited to bring this concept to Scioto County and really to Southern Ohio,” Savakinas stated.
