A man involved in a traffic accident has since died. The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) received a call at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday reporting a single vehicle collision on Gallia Pike in Franklin Furnace.

OSHP has since reported that Anthony Bland, 51, of Ironton, was traveling east on Gallia Pike. He drove off the right side of the roadway, lost control and then drove off the left side of the roadway and into a field where his 2000 Pontiac Grand Am overturned. Bland was ejected from the vehicle.

He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Ironton then to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The Portsmouth Post was later notified by the Cabell County Coroner that Bland died as a result of his injuries. OSHP further reported that Bland was not wearing a seatbelt and drug impairment is believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
