Joseph E. Gaines, 35, of 227 Burkes Lane in Wheelersburg, has been arrested in the investigation of a string of robberies in the Wheelersburg area.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini announced Saturday that his 911 center received a call at 6:48 a.m. from Burger King, located at 8961 Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg. The caller stated that they had just been robbed by a male suspect wearing jogging pants, a long sleeve shirt, a red under armour hat, black shoes and sunglasses. The caller further added that the male suspect left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and was later observed getting into a vehicle describes as being a Toyota Camry silver in color.

Captain John Murphy stated that detectives were able to follow a path in the wet grass from the vehicle to Gain’s residence, where the suspect was detained for questioning without incident. That resulted in several search warrants being executed to include the Burkes Lane address and finally resulted in an arrest.

Murphy explained that his detectives have been working several robbery’s in the Wheelersburg area that are similar, all having the same suspect description. The first robbery took place on April 20 at Wes Banco, located at 9000 Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg. Wes Banco was again robbed on May 20.
