An Austintown, Ohio man has been indicted in the murder of a Scioto County man. William Shakoor, 20, of Austintown, was indicted on murder and other charges in the shooting death of Matthew E. Dalton, 40, of South Webster in Liberty Township, Ohio.
According to Liberty, Ohio Police Chief, Richard Tisone, Dalton died from gunshot wounds suffered in Youngstown, Ohio where he was working as a millwright for General Motors. Tisone told the Daily Times, Dalton was staying at a motel on Jan. 27 at 5 a.m. when the shooting occurred.
Tisone said Liberty Police units responded to the area of Catherine Street in reference to gunshots.
“When our units arrived there, we found Mr. Dalton lying there with a serious wound in the back of his leg,” Tisone said at the time. “Our officers applied a tourniquet, which I believe in that point and time probably helped the bleeding to subside, but it was a severe wound.”
During the course of the investigation, the Liberty Detective Bureau developed some leads in the case and charged Shakoor, and Michael Curry, 21, both from Austintown, with aggravated murder.
Michael Curry, also of Austintown, had been charged with attempted murder in the Dalton case, but the charge was dropped last week, Tisone said.
