Very little information is being released concerning an incident in which an inmate at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility was killed earlier in the week. The Daily Times began requesting information on the incident Wednesday and received only basic information Friday morning.

The inmate is identified as Melvin Green, 32, of Hamilton County. No information was provided as to how he died and no information was provided concerning any charges filed in the incident. However, reports are that he was beaten by other inmates with a pipe.

Green was admitted to SOCF on May 20, 2005. His convictions include aggravated robbery from Hamilton County, vandalism from Hamilton County and vandalism from Warren County. He reportedly had an eight-year sentence with a six-year sentence because of a gun specification.

He was apparently taken to Pike Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Times was told the name of anyone charged in the incident would not be released until actual charges are filed.

The Times is continuing to request information from the state.
