Searchers look for a missing Lewis County man

Lewis County Sheriff Johnny Bivens brought in a helicopter Tuesday afternoon during a break in the weather to aid in the search for a man missing since Thursday, March 23. Bivens said Justin Johnson, 28, was last seen about 8:00 p.m. that Thursday at his home on Town Branch Road in Vanceburg.

The helicopter was utilized to join in the search of the area around where Johnson’s red Chevrolet S-10 pickup was found on Lower Twin Branch off McDowell Creek Road, south of Garrison, where it was located at about 7:30 a.m. Friday (March 24). Bivens said there was no new information gathered during that aerial search.

He said he is continuing to develop and follow leads utilizing telephone records.

On Wednesday, family members and volunteers were scheduled to search nearby Kinniconick (kin-ē-KA-nick) Creek with boats and on horseback.

Johnson is 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds with a slender build. He has short brown hair and hadn’t shaved for a few days when he disappeared.

Bivens said he is treating it as a criminal case.
