Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) will host the 4th annual ‘SOMC TRI for Your LIFE,’ as the organization seeks to build on wellness initiatives and grow the multi-sport community within the greater Southern Ohio region. The SOMC Sprint Triathlon will take place on Aug. 22–23 in Portsmouth, Ohio. The event will begin on Saturday and will feature a youth triathlon held on the campus of Shawnee State University.
According to Brad Zieber, manager of Atheletic Training at the SOMC Life Center, the two-day TRI for Your LIFE events are a great way to involve not only the individuals, but whole families into a great time of health and fitness.
The event will kick-off with a ‘Little Bear Run’ for those children who just want to show off their skills. The youth triathlon will begin in the pool and progress to the bike course alongside the murals of the floodwall that depict the history of the community. The youth run will cap off the event and will occur through the campus green.
On Sunday, the Adult TRI for Your LIFE will begin with a brief swim in the SOMC LIFE Center pool and then progress to a 10 mile bike course that features a closed land and the very flat and fast Route 23, and challenging short loop through the beautiful Feurt Hill neighborhood. The run is set to feature a rolling 5k course through the streets of historic Portsmouth.
