Some 2,500 marijuana plants have been eradicated, and plans are now in place to pursue criminal charges after a two-day operation in Portsmouth and other parts of Scioto County.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini and Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware said during a two day operation, the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force with assistance from the Marijuana Eradication Unit of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, and officers from the State of Ohio Divisions of Parks and Recreation and Watercraft as well as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources eradicated approximately 2,500 marijuana plants from various locations inside Scioto County and Portsmouth.

Upon the completion of several investigations initiated during the two-day operation, several individuals are potentially facing criminal charges for cultivating marijuana.

Donini and Ware took the time to thank the public for tips provided that may have led to any of the locations of the plants seized and also all of the agencies that provided their assistance during the operation.

The two said anyone wishing to leave drug information for the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force can contact the Task Force tip line at 740-354-5656 or email [email protected]. All information will be kept confidential and anonymous.
