GREENUP, Ky. — The Greenup County Soil and Water Conservation District is currently seeking volunteers to sample streams. A four hour Watershed Training will be held on Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greenup County Health Department, 806 Seaton Avenue in Greenup, Ky.

The Watershed training provides instruction on how to collect water samples. Volunteers will conduct field surveys on chosen streams in Kentucky three times a year and collect samples for lab analysis. The sampling takes less than an hour, and sampling kit is provided.

Rod Bruce, of the GCSWD, said the Watershed Training equips participants to determine whether or not water is safe.

“Watershed training gives you the skills to test the creek water running through your backyard and find out how safe the water is. Because you are doing this with many other volunteers, as a community, we will find out about the quality of the water flowing through the streams and rivers in Greenup County,” Bruce said.
