RACELAND, Ky. — Greenup County Lions Club (GCLC) is launching a talent search, and if you possess that which you desire to share, then GCLC is looking for you.
The preliminaries are on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. The final, a second performance by those selected on Thursday, will be on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. The John P. Stephens Cultural Arts Center at Raceland-Worthington High School, which is located off U.S. 23 in Raceland.
Joshua of treasurers of the GCLC, said there are two purposes for the talent search.
“For two reasons. First of all, there are a lot of talented people in the Tri-State and we want to give them a chance to get out there. Second, the proceeds will help with our community projects such as scholarships and eye glasses for those in need, particularly children,”Spears said.
John P. Stephens Cultural Arts Center is a state of the art performing center with great acoustics, according to Spears.
GCLC gladly welcomes family-friendly acts, consisting of a variety of different talents and skills.
“Any family-friendly act. Think of a local version of “America’s Got Talent.” Singers, dancers, comedians, jugglers, dog acts are all examples of what we’d love to see. Something different will be exciting for the audience,” he said.
Awards will be waiting for first, second and third place winners.
“We sure are. We’re giving $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $125 for third place plus certificates. We are grateful to our business sponsors for making it possible to offer such great rewards,” he said.
Anyone who desires to sign up for the talent search should visit the Greenup Lions facebook page to find the application. Applications are also available at Tech Wizard Computers and the Greenup County News-Times in downtown Greenup.
The cost is $25 per act, and children under 18 must have written parental consent to participate. Admission to the event is $5 on Thursday night and $10 on Saturday.
“We’re pleased that Bobby Allen will be our emcee for the event. Leigh Ann Heineman of Greenup, a very talented singer, will perform on Thursday evening and, time willing, there will be other local entertainers on Saturday as well,” he said. “Of course, we hope for a great turnout. This is a chance to enjoy some great local entertainers and support the community at the same time.”
