A man wanted by authorities for escape has been arrested in West Portsmouth. Eric Winters, 29, whose last known address was 1365 15th St., in West Portsmouth, was taken into custody Monday night.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his department had been looking for Winters who had been sentenced to prison and failed to appear for his prison sentence earlier this month. Winters original charges included burglary, breaking & entering and aggravated robbery.

When Winters was arrested in March of this year, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office said they believed they had solved a rash of burglaries in the West Portsmouth area which started in November of 2014.

On Dec. 15, 2014, at approximately 7 a.m. a West Portsmouth resident called in and stated that the suspect had just attempted to break into their garage and fled the area on foot around Pershing Avenue. Deputies and detectives, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, responded with a K-9 unit and Winters was taken into custody following a four-hour search.

He was then indicted by a Scioto County grand jury.
