• Shawnee State Park Lodge hosts “Third Thursdays with Steve Free.” This event is held every third Thursday of the month from 6-9 p.m.

• The Clark Planetarium at Shawnee State University hosts free public shows every Monday and Thursday at 7 p.m.

• The communities jam sessions at Riverview Retirement Center. Locals will be invited to perform or listen to good music. The event is held at 500 2nd Street, Portsmouth. It will be held every Sunday at the Riverview Retirement Center.

• The 1810 House will be reopening in the spring. Their hours are typically, every Sunday between 2 and 4 p.m.

Step back in Scioto County History to review the antiquities held within one of Portsmouth’s oldest structures at 1926 Waller Street. Parking is available for guests on the streets.

There is no admission, but donations insure the longevity of this piece of Portsmouth history and are much appreciated.

• Theology on Tap will be held in the Club Room of Port City every Monday night starting at 6 p.m. everyone is invited to join Fr. Steve Cuff from All Saints Episcopal Church for “conversations about stuff that matters.” It’s an informal discussion, so feel free to bring yourself, your friends, your questions, your faith and your doubt.

• March 3 – The Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its 60th annual Business/Farmers Banquet at the Scioto County Welcome Center. The registration begins at 5:30 with the dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person.

• March 4 – Grab a friend or two and head down to Port City for Karaoke Night! The singing starts at 8 p.m.

• March 4 – Hometown Heroes Event at Northwest High School. This event will help raise money for the Hooks for Books program. For more information contact Mark Frazie at 740-357-4744.

• March 5 – The Huntington Blues society will be playing at the Ro-Na Theatre in Ironton. The Ro-Na Theater was established in 1949. It is an ongoing work in progress. It is currently usable, but still under renovations to restore it to its former glory.

The theatre is located at 310 S 3rd Street in Ironton. The event is a benefit to raise funds to help restore the Ro-Na Theater. Admission is free, but donations will be much appreciated.

• March 5 – Port City will host its monthly First Saturday Open Mic Night from 8:30pm until 11 p.m. Sign ups begin at 7:30 p.m with the first player starting at 8.

• March 6 – T-Ruck Beginner Level. What is a “Ruck” or “Rucking?” Rucking involves, putting weight on your back and going for a walk. Join Steven Taulbee, Army Master Fitness Trainer in a team rucking event. Each participant is required to bring their own “ruck” (backpack) and provisions (water, snacks). The experience will be outside so make sure to dress accordingly.

• March 6 – Starting at 3 p.m. at the Markay Cultural Arts Center in Jackson, the 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Band, organized and directed by John M. Huffman Jr., seeks to portray a 19th century military brass band that was formed in Southern Ohio in 1860’s.

Currently comprised of 22 members, the band is made up of individuals from different parts of the state and performs period correct music on 150 year old instruments wearing period correct Federal uniforms.

The band, based in Waverly, has played at a number of concerts, reenactments, parades, weddings, formal balls, and other musical events throughout the state of Ohio. The group has also performed at the annual Remembrance Day weekend in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Markay Cultural Arts Center is located at 269 E Main Street in Jackson. Tickets are available at www.markaytickets.org

• March 10 – The 2016 UCAN College Carnival Night will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the SOMC Friends Center. This event is free and geared toward students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
