Community Partners of Shawnee Mental Health Center announces the award of three $500.00 scholarships to students majoring in a program that will enable them to work within the mental health field upon graduation. The recipients are Alyssa Lambert, Paul Martin and Kristie Reeves.
Lambert is a junior at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. She is majoring in psychology and she plans to attend graduate school in social work after she receives her bachelor’s degree. Her essay illustrated her passion for learning and her desire to help people with mental illness. After graduate school she plans to return to the area to serve people in her community.
Paul Martin is pursuing a master’s degree in Counseling and Human Development at Lindsey Wilson College in Ashland, KY. Martin has worked in the mental health field for thirteen years and he has a strong desire to enhance his knowledge and skills so that he can better serve the people in his community. He works at Shawnee Family Health center in Coal Grove, Ohio where he primarily works with children and their families.
Kristie Reeves already has her master’ s degree in social work but her desire to learn did not stop there. Kristie is now working toward special post-master’s certification in art therapy at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. She is able to combine her passion for art with her passion for helping people with mental health problems. Kristie is employed with Shawnee Family health Center in Coal Grove, Ohio where she works with children.
This was the first year Community Partners has offered college scholarships and the organization had only planned to offer two awards. However, due to the high quality of the applicants the board of directors made three awards this year.
