Naturalist Programs for July
Archery, Friday, July 14, 5 p.m. — Try your hand at a new outdoor skill or join us to show of your precision shooting. Meet at the Nature Center archery range. All equipment provided.
Adams County Prairie Tour, July 29, 9 a.m. — Meet at the Shawnee Lodge lobby to caravan to the area’s interesting prairie habitats. Dress in layers and pack a lunch.
Canoeing 101, Wed, Thurs, and Sat’s at 4 p.m. (Excluding the 1st Saturday) — Learn the FUNdamentals of paddling then take a canoe out for a float around the lake to enjoy the peaceful serenity and search for wildlife. Meet at the Turkey Creek Boat Ramp.
Creek Crawl, every Friday at 10 a.m. — Investigate the tiny creatures living under rocks, the animals tell the story of the stream. Wear old clothes and shoes and be prepared to get wet and dirty. Meet at the Campground Amphitheater.
Nature Craft, every Sunday at 1 p.m. — Bring your creativity for an art project at the Nature Center with Emily.
Passport to Fishing, Friday, July 28, 5 p.m. — Learn about fishing and give it a try! Meet at the Nature Center. Bait, tackle and poles provided by Division of Wildlife and Scioto County Soil and Water Conservation.
Trail Trek, Saturday, July 8, 15 and 22, 9 a.m. — Treasure the trees, have fun in the flowers, and blast off with the birds along a beautiful trail with the Naturalist. Meet at the Nature Center. Wear long pants and comfortable hiking shoes.
Visit the Bookmobile, July 18 from 1:45 to 3 p.m. — Bring your children to the bookmobile at the Nature Center for a story and a craft.
Wild Edible Walk, Friday, July 7 and 21 at 8 a.m. — Munch your way through the Campground with the Naturalist. Meet at the Amphitheater.
Nature Center Hours Wednesday-Sunday 12 to 3 p.m. — Visit the quaint A Frame Nature Center and historic CCC cabin near the Turkey Creek Boat Ramp for more information on trails, local attractions, to visit with a naturalist, learn about local wildlife and much more.
Movies at Dusk — Every Saturday night camper hosts show a family friendly film at the Campground Amphitheater. The Friends of Shawnee State Park provide free popcorn.
