Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

0

As promised. We NOW have Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny!!! I did go watch it again. Which made it a lot better!!! I can’t explain it, maybe I was just grumpy last week. But first, let’s talk a little about my friend Indy. I grew up watching the original trilogy. Raiders of the Lost Ark (released in 1981) was/is one of my favorite movies of all time. I studied history in college BECAUSE of Indiana Jones and these films. I know, a tad childish but I have so many amazing memories from growing up with our favorite archaeologist. The first time I said a curse word out loud…. yep…I was copying a line from Indy. What’s great about this series and our hero is he is truly an “every-man” he also messes up ALL THE TIME! Yet his heart and grit usually come through. I think this is what makes the character so appealing. I feel most of us (especially me) screw up, take the wrong path, but keep getting up. As does Indy. So, say I am sad to see him gone is an understatement. We have one final adventure and although I was disappointed in its first viewing, I composed myself and went back again alone and soaked it all in. So, no half star out of 5. I don’t know what I was thinking.

Today’s review will be a little different. We’ve been watching films together for 4 years. The review formula is pretty cut and dry for me. I will give you some random movie trivia I know or learned. I discuss the film or actors’ histories. We then dive into a mini summary, and you get the score. That won’t change. However, there are some weeks where I want to add a different context. This is one of those weeks.

Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse

Happy Saturday! I have some good news and bad news for you. The bad news…. we will not be reviewing Fast X this week. I know, I said we would, but we have so many movies! We have one slot! I promise at some point I will. For family. However, this week is exciting too! We are back into the Marvel universe!!! We have Spiderman. You’re thinking ANOTHER spiderman movie? Stay with me. This is an animated film. No, not a kids cartoon. The first film Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse came out in 2018. It is considered one of the best superhero movies ever made. The visuals were a blend of computer animated and hand-drawn comic book style animations. This made the first film truly feel like you were watching a comic book come to life. I had never seen anything like it before. Truly cutting new clothe in a world of lackluster animation. Also, that CAST! One of my person favorite actors is named Jake Johnson. Many of you will know that name for a tv show called New Girl. He’s so funny and the self-deprecating humor is hilarious! In this film series he’s a version Spider-man but Peter B. Parker. Imagine a Spider-man who has crippling depressing. Someone who lost Mary Jane (his love) and eats too much pizza. He is the reluctant mentor in the first film. The sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was said to be bigger, and even better, a game-changer again for the animation format. Would it be?

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

0

This week we head from a high rise in Evil Dead Rise to Mushroom Kingdom!! We are on an adventure with the Super Mario brothers. I am sure many of you are familiar with these guys. Both Mario and Luigi were flagships with Nintendo video games. Mario originally appeared in Donkey Kong in 1981 as the protagonist jumping barrels to save Princess Peach. We then have Mario Bros. in 1983 which was the brothers first game of their own. I can remember this being one of the first games I remember playing as a child. I can hear the music as I am writing this. My brother and I loved growing up and these characters and EVEN enjoyed the live action 1993 movie Super Mario Bros. That was a complete and utter failure. We have made it 30 years from that film and now Illumination (you’ll know from Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing franchises) has decided to put the brothers back in action. So, the question is…Would this be any good? Or more inline with the 1993 failure.
