Scioto County’s gas prices remain a puzzle

Feeling gouged? Well, it is not your imagination.

I was in Chillicothe Sunday, and gasoline was $2.33 a gallon. When I left Scioto County it was $2.69 a gallon. So Scioto County residents are paying 36 cents more per gallon than a place 50 miles away. If that makes sense to you, then please explain it to me.

I have, over the last several years, heard every explanation there could possibly be as to why gasoline is higher in Scioto County than anywhere else in the state, and yet nothing could possibly explain a 36 cents per gallon difference.

Gasoline now joins oxycodone as being higher priced in Scioto County than elsewhere. That’s why drug dealers come here from Columbus to peddle their pills. They get $1 a milligram here, and a lot less in Columbus.

I don’t know why we are willing to pay more for things in Scioto County than other places in the state, unless it is that we are just gullible.

When I tell people in other parts of the state how much we pay for gasoline here, they at first are shocked, then they laugh, and finally just blow it off as going with the territory.

We all need gasoline, and those pricing it at $2.69 a gallon know that. Maybe what we ought to do is not buy another item from these places. We could go in, pay the gouging price for the gasoline, then not buy the chips, soda, bread, etc., then remind them that we will be buying several other items, but at another kind of store that doesn’t gouge us at the gas pump.

As I have said before, there is a simple formula for how gasoline prices are figured in Scioto County. If the price of oil goes up, the price of gas goes up. If the price of oil goes down, the price of gas goes up.

Remember these people and their way-over-priced gasoline, and give them as little of your money as you possibly can. We have to fight back.

Even with the Kroger $.20 discount, you can get gas cheaper anywhere else. I always fill up when I go out of town.

Here is a way to find out gas prices anywhere.

Not buying anything else is something I've been doing around here for a few years. Great Idea.

I drive all over southern Ohio in my occupation as a veterans service officer for AMVETS. Representing veterans and their dependents. In my travel, it is always cheaper to purchase gasoline outside of Scioto County.

My travels take me from Portsmouth to Chillicothe three days a week, from there on selected days to Columbus, Cincinnati, Pomeroy, Wellston, Washington Court House, Oak Hill and West Union, always lower gasoline prices then here. We have an AMVETS office in Ironton where I go weekly to file claims, it is always lower prices for gasoline.

Why? It may be our politicians do not care enough to question the suppliers.

I have been living in Scioto county for 12 years now and have noticed this since I have been here and have emailed the govenor and my rep without any answer back . Maybe they are part of the take who knows . I would hope that someone with authority could look into this. I Everytime I get out of Scioto county it is interesting to see just how much lower the gas is . Not a whole lot but usually 10 to 20 cents cheaper. can clark oil station explain this . I suppose it is for research or the cost of upgradding . It usually is some lame excuse and we hear it all the time . How much money do ya think they took home last year??

Do I hear the voice of dissent rising from the opinion page of The Portsmouth Daily Times?Do my ears decieve me ,or is it the battle cry of the socially minded among us screaming"Im Mad As Hell,And Im Not Going To Take It Anymore...no...im sorry..its just frank, suggesting that the answer to the Scioto county Price Gouging Problem,is to,"Pay the gouging price for the gasoline, then not buy the chips, soda, bread ,etc."first of all ,Id like to apoligize to Mr. Lewis for the sarcasm, and would also, like to thank him for recently addressing the catastrophically devastating prescription drug epidemic that has become so prevailent in this country ,and especially in our neck of the woods, the very heartland of America.. As a wise man once said ,"Dissent is the highest form of partriotism".however ,that dissenting voice must outsound the status quo,in order to bring about the needed change.Dont let the status quo shout us down, desperate times call for desperate measures ,dont buy their pop and chips ,or their gasoline, form car pools, ride bikes, for Gods sake ,show some solidarity!!Get together as a neighborhood,as a community, and pool your resources, take pickup trucks and gasoline cans ,and buy it where its cheaper, completely boycott the price gougers, and they will have no choice but to bend. Its been said that,"A journey of a thousand miles ,begins with a single step",so lets take big steps, and maybe the journey wont take so long.....
