Hoyt Allen Jr. to serve as interim minister of the First Church of Christ

WHEELERSBURG — Hoyt Allen Jr. will be the interim minister of the First Church of Christ, 1224 Dogwood Ridge Road, Wheelersburg, during the search for a full-time minister. Allen, a native of Follansbee, W.Va., graduated from Follansbee High School in 1957. Allen and his wife, Shara, became Christians Aug. 25, 1963, at the Hooverson Heights Church of Christ in Follansbee. He has taken studies from Johnson Bible College of Knoxville, Tenn., and graduated from Kentucky Christian University of Grayson, Ky., with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He also has taken additional studies from five additional colleges. He holds both a Master of Divinity Degree and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Lake Charles (LA) Bible College.

Hoyt is married to the former Shara Moffett of Weirton, W.Va.. They reside in Ironton. Hoyt and Shara have two grown children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Shara often accompanies Hoyt and shares “Chalk Arts.”

He has preached 126 revivals and conducted 142 seminars in several states. He has served as full-time minister with seven different churches. Two of these have been while he served as executive director of KYOWVA Evangelistic Association, based out of Ironton. He semi-retired in 2011. He has been involved in numerous ministries and has spoken at 14 different camps, while serving as camp dean over 20 years. Yet, he still preaches revivals, conducts seminars, shares KYOWVA Programs, serves as a supply preacher, as well as a special event speaker.

He has over 20 seminars which he teaches to help equip the church to do a better job for Jesus. He has served as author of numerous articles, which have been printed in several nationwide periodicals such as The Christian Standard, The Lookout, The Restoration Herald, The Banner of Truth, etc. He has produced 14 Bible courses, as well as “Fifty-Two Meditations on Communion.” He is currently working on a autobiography.

Regular services include Sunday school for all ages at 9:30 a.m., worship at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. every Sunday, Praise, ladies’ Bible study at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday, and Prayer and Bible Study at 7 p.m. every Wednesday.

Hoyt Allen will lead a devotion time at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday at River Bend House in Wheelersburg.

Members of the congregation will be decorating the church for Vacation Bible School at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14.
