The Southern Ohio Domestic Task Force (SODTF) shelter is continuing to improve and serve a safe haven for those in need of refuge in domestic violence situations. The shelter recently received funds from the Wild Outsiders 4 H Club.

Yvonne Lyon, co-director of the Southern Ohio Domestic Task Force, said The Wild Outsiders 4H Club raised money for the insulation project.

“The money for this project was given to us by The Wild Outsiders 4H group. The advisor is Rebecca Buckler, the co-advisor Rachel McClure, but they couldn’t be here today (Wednesday). They had a bake sale to raise the money that was given to us to get the garage finished,” Lyon said.

She said they strive to make the shelter a nice location for the community.

“We work really hard to accomplish a nice shelter for our community. We feel honored to have accomplished what we have been able to accomplish to help the community. We could not do what we do without the support from great organizations, such as the Wild Outsiders, and the Portsmouth Jaycees,” she said.

The Portsmouth Jaycees, and members of the Guardians of Society volunteered time to put in the insulation at of the garage of the SODTF.

Kenneth Scarberry, president of the Portsmouth Jaycees, said their focus is to reach out to youth, and others in the community.

“We are the Portsmouth Area Jaycees, and what we do is the Trout Derby, the Haunted House, Easter Egg Hunt, and things such as this to raise money all year round for kids for Christmas. We do this so that kids that may not ordinarily get any gifts will have something. When it comes to helping at something like this, why not, we want to help out in any way that we can,” Scarberry said.

He said they are always looking for new members to help with the Jaycees. Any one interested may visit their office at 2033 Gallia Street in Portsmouth.

The Guardians of Society is a newly organized local group which seeks to provide assistance to other local groups and organizations. More information about GS may be obtained from their Facebook page. www.facebookguardiansociety.
