FLATWOODS, Ky. — Greenup County Habitat For Humanity (GCHFH) is continuing to carrying out their motto of “Building Houses, Building Hope” with a ground-breaking for their third house at 929 Vallance Street in Flatwoods on April 16 at 4 p.m.
Michael Garlinger, construction coordinator for GCHFH, said they are excited about finally getting started with their third housing project.
“We have been waiting all winter, waiting to get started. All of the freezing temperatures and the snow has us pushed back a little bit. We are trying to get all of our planning organized, so that once we get this process done then we’ll actually be able to get started,” Garlinger said.
He stay they are still working on selecting a family to live in the home.
“Our Family Selection committee is still working on finding a family. We had a family selected last fall, due to some circumstances, fell through so we’ve gone back to our pool of names and are still in that process,” he said.
The project is expected to be completed within the next six months.
“I am hoping we can do the total project in maybe, six months but certainly by the end of this calendar year we should get finished. The objective is to get it done while the weather is still good,” he said.
GCHFH hosts a multitude of fundraising projects, partners with many community agencies and accepts monetary contributions of any amount to help cover the cost of construction. Funding covers building materials and technical work, such as air conditioning/heating, plumbing and electrical.
Upcoming fundraiser events for GCHFH include the following:
