Officials with Haverhill Chemicals reported Saturday an employee was fatally injured while on the job on Friday, April 4 at 10:30 p.m.
According to Haverhill Chemicals spokeswoman Jennifer Reed Goddard, “The Haverhill Chemicals employee was fatally injured while working in the bisphenol-a (BPA) plant. Our (Haverhill Chemicals) on-site emergency response team members responded to the accident and began providing treatment following our strict chemical exposure procedure. The team continued to provide treatment until first responders arrived on the scene and transferred the employee to the hospital.”
Goddard told the Daily Times Saturday afternoon that it is against policy to release the name of the employee involved in the accident.
“At this time the cause of the accident is still under investigation. We are committed to the safety of our employees and our community,” Goddard said. “Haverhill staff will cooperate with the appropriate authorities to determine the cause of the accident and to minimize the potential for future accidents.”
Goddard said, “We know there were no other injured employees or contractors and at no time during the accident was the public or nearby community in any danger.”
No other information was available at press time.
