Thank God Scioto County Commissioner Mike Crabtree isn’t a lifeguard. New Steel International has requested $100,000 ($50,000 jointly between Scioto and Lawrence counties) and I concur that questions need to be answered before such an investment is entrusted to this project. However, I feel it is extremely nonsensicle and discourteous from the chairman of our Scioto County Commissioners to release a public statement saying,

“I know they, (New Steel International), want us to give them money.

You know if you have a drowning man out there and all you have him doing is bobbing up and down out of the water, there comes a time when you give up and let him drown.” Chairman Crabtree is absolutely entitled to his opinion, but YOU sir, represent this entire county when you speak.

Hopefully, New Steel CEO John Shultes, local private investors like Andy Glockner, Jeff Albrecht, and numerous others weren’t offended by your statement.

The sad truth is when it comes to economic development and growth for Scioto County, Mike Crabtree is one of our lifeguards.

I’ve never attempted it, but I’m going to guess that it is impossible to rescue anything from drowning while your foot is stuck in your mouth.
