2 arrested for drugs in Greenup County

GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. — Two people were arrested Wednesday in the South Shore, Ky., area for drug charges, according to the Greenup County Sheriff’s Department.

Bill Swords, chief of the South Shore Police Department, performed a traffic stop and was assisted by deputies of the Greenup County Sheriff’s Department. During the traffic stop, officers discovered numerous bottles of prescription medications containing: oxycodone, hydrocodone, muscle relaxers, Xanax, and a plastic bag containing marijuana. possession of various controlled substances and trafficking of controlled substances.

The driver of the vehicle, Zachary Dorst, 27, of Portsmouth, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, and possession of various and arrested.

Mattie Deniston, 30 of Portsmouth, was charged with a number of drug possession and trafficking charges.

According to officers, an elder woman and child were also in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop, and Social Services were contacted to assist the woman and child.

Dorst and Deniston were transported to the Greenup County Detention Center.

According to the Greenup County Sheriff’s Department, an investigation will continue, and additional charges are pending.
