JEDISO working to market the region

The Joint Economic Development Initiative of Southern Ohio (JEDISO), thanks to funding from Fluor B&W Portsmouth Community Commitment Fund, has hired marketing company Ady Voltedge to develop a plan to help market the Scioto Pike, Ross and Jackson County regions to potential employers.

“We (JEDISO) retained Ady Voltedge, a well known marketing and site selection firm. We retained them to prepare what is the next phase of our economic development plan,” said Christopher Manegold CEO of the Economic Development Alliance of Southern Ohio.

Manegold said the phase includes a targeted marketing strategy and an implementation plan.

“They (Ady Voltedge) has been on the ground this week, spending one day in each of the four counties (Scioto Pike, Ross and Jackson Counties),” Manegold said.

Manegold said the report Ady Voltedge is preparing for JEDISO is anticipated to include, “specific target industries that will fit well with the characteristics (of the region) as well as the available property throughout the four counties. It’s not good to invite somebody in, if you have no place to put them.”

He said Ady Voltedge is looking at the regions resources such as land, buildings and transportation along with other aspects.

“We are going to see how it all fits together and match those up with industries,” Manegold said. “The next step would the implementation plan. Where do we find these companies, how do we contact them, what kind of associations would these industries belong to. Once we are equipped that knowledge we can then attempt to meet with these companies and begin to deliver the southern Ohio message.”

Manegold acknowledged the enormity of this task.

“It is a sizable task and without the commitment of the Fluor B&W Portsmouth Community Commitment Fund, we would not have gotten this far,” Manegold said. “What it (Fluor B&W Portsmouth Community Commitment Fund support) has enabled us to do is begin to look and act like a small metropolitan market and identify those characteristics big companies would be looking for,” Manegold said.

Manegold said the report will highlight such things as the availability and cost of land throughout the region. He said it will also highlight the availability of utilities, workforce and transportation such as rail and road.

Manegold said once released the value of this report to the region will be lasting.

“This is not just a report to sit on a shelf. We are going to be working with it actively,” he said. “They will tell us the who and the value added is that they will tell us the where and they tell us the how. We’re all going to benefit from this report in one way shape or form.”

He said the final report is due in May.
