County awards millions in sewer contracts

Millions of dollars in contracts were awarded Thursday during a meeting of the Scioto County Commissioners, as a part of the Minford Sanitary Sewer Project.


The commissioners awarded a contract to Mechanical Construction of Portsmouth, for $4,491,756 to construct a Waste Water Treatment Plant associated with the Minford Sanitary Sewer Project.


According to the bid specifications, the construction of a wastewater treatment plant includes influent screen facility, oxidation tank, two circular clarifiers, ultraviolet disinfection, post-aeration, aerobic sludge digestion, an operations building a sludge pump station, a scum pump station and a plant drainage pump station, access drive and related site work and electrical work.


The commissioners also awarded a contract to Tri-State Pipeline Inc. for $6,370,350, for construction of the Minford portion of the project. The Minford portion of the project consists of the construction of a sanitary sewer collection system for Muletown, Minford and surrounding communities.


The Clarktown portion of the project will consist of the construction of a sanitary sewer collection system for the community of Clarktown and several adjacent neighborhoods. Tri-State Pipeline Inc. was also awarded this contract for $4,004,250.


The Rubyville portion of the project consists of the construction of a sanitary sewer collection system for the community of Rubyville and several adjacent neighborhoods. Enyart and Sons was awarded this contract for $2,735,318.80.


The total amount for all contracts awarded is $17,601,674.80, which is still half of the original estimates for work.


According to Scioto County Sanitary Engineer, the necessary paperwork is expected to be completed around the first of March, and when complete the contractors could be given the OK to start work.
