Set in Hollywood’s infamous Sunset Strip, the musical Rock of Ages the takes audience members, back to according to soppa.org, “when it was all about big chords, big dreams, and big hair. You know you can’t fight this feeling any more. You just want to Rock on.” Now the show is coming to The Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.

According to released information about the show, “In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker and in L.A.’s most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the (19)80s. It’s Rock of Ages, an arena rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face melting hits of the ’80s. Don’t miss this awesomely good time about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on.”

The show will feature the music of REO Speedwagon, Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Poison, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Whitesnake, Night Ranger, Quaterflash, Asia, Damn Yankees and more.

The show has been nominated for five Tony awards, Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Director, Best Costume Design and Best Sound Design.

Show has received a number of positive reviews according to The New York Times the show is, “Absurdly enjoyable! About as guilty as pleasures get!”

Other reviews include “Raucous and outrageous fun!” said The Las Vegas Sun, “The real deal! A cranked-up crowd-pleaser!” said The New York Daily News and “Insanely fun! Rock and comedy in perfect proportion!” said Time Out New York.

According to a question and answer page about the show, someone asks “Should I wear my leg warmers and studded leather jacket when I come see the show? Can’t hurt! Here’s our motto: ‘Dress to excess, baby, it’s the ’80s all over again!’”

According to released information about the show describing if the show is appropriate for children, “Rock of Ages is a full-out, blast-off, hold-onto-your-hairspray celebration of the great rock music of the ’80s, and you might be wondering-or, admit it, hoping- your kids will love it as much as you will. Well, we think they will, but you should know that some of the costumes dancing and language might not be appropriate for kids under the age of 14. We think teenagers will dog it, because it’s totally awesome, sort of like a music video brought to life complete with hot dancers, and blazing guitar licks.”
