With the recent hire of Jason Kester as the Executive Director of the Southern Ohio Port Authority (SOPA) and other developments, Todd Book as decided to remain as SOPA chairman.
Book has been the Interim Economic Development Director for Scioto County since the start of 2013. In April, Book was elected chairman of SOPA and has guided the organization since.
Since taking on the two roles, Book has been hired as legislative counsel with the Ohio State Bar Association.
Book, in an exclusive interview with the Daily Times, said he plans to remain as SOPA chairman until the election of officers in April.
“I’ve talked with the commissioners and I was elected to be chair of the Port Authority for the year. I think it will workout fine, for me to continue as chairman,” Book said. “There are still quite a few projects we’re trying to get done through the Port Authority and with the new executive director on board, I’m excited to continue to work with them.”
When asked about some of the potential projects he intends to work on between now and April, Book said, “There are all kinds of little things that pop up, different possibilities and opportunities. By putting an executive director in place, we (SOPA) now have someone on the ground that can respond to those in a very timely way.”
Book said its the goal of SOPA to put forth the county as a motivated, organized entity that’s trying to bring economic development to the community.
“I don’t want to say we did not have it (entity to bring development) before, but we did not have it as organized as we’re going to have it now,” Book said.
